Root Canals

Because root canal therapy is the subject of many anecdotal horror tales, it has developed the reputation as an extremely painful procedure, but the truth is, any pain associated with this treatment usually is caused by the toothache that motivates the patient to seek dental care rather than the procedure itself.
Having a root canal done is much like any other type of dental treatment. A local anesthetic is used. Damaged tissue is removed from the tooth, and infected pulp is cleaned from the root canal. The affected area is then sealed and an impression is made for the creation of a permanent dental crown. In the meantime, the patient is fitted with a temporary crown and usually experiences no lasting discomfort.
